"Double Occupancy". Holland America, 7 day cruise out of Seattle, low price is $581, which is affordable, except I am single, so they want $1,162 unless I find a roommate to share the stateroom. I cannot afford that. Does anyone know of a travel service that matches singles looking for fellow travelers to share a room? Yes, I tried google, and got some advice that appears to be outdated. If anyone here has experience with this sort of situation, I would really like some advice. Thanks in advance!

(9,353 posts)Its an excellent site for cruisers.
I have joined up with people in the past for shore excursions. I am sure there will be others looking for a cabin share.

(3,414 posts)I want to go on a regular cruise, not a "singles" cruise. I'll see what they have to offer, but I doubt that they could match the price I listed above (from vacations to go dot com).

(3,414 posts)My son took his family on a 7 day Alaska cruise, and they brought back the most amazing photos: Glaciers and Grizzlies and Whales, Oh MY! I wanna go so bad I can taste it...

(1,615 posts)From Homer to Dutch Harbor. They allowed us to set up tents on the deck! (Duck tape them to the deck)
I was out for a week and we stopped in all kinds of cool little places.

(3,414 posts)compare with the cruise. Bellingham to Ketchican - $342, Ketchican to Juneau - $104, so 1 way = $446, round trip = $892 (travel as passenger only - no car). And that does not include travel from Tacoma to Bellingham (Amtrak, about $35), food, sleeping berth, or any extras beyond the space on the deck for my tent. At less than $600, including food and sleeping berth (assuming I can find a roommate), the Holland America cruise is the real bargain. And for someone my age (turned 68 Thanksgiving day), the cruise would be much more comfortable.

(1,615 posts)My trip was out and back to Dutch Harbor. I think this was 2002. I remember paying something like 400 bucks for the week. I was already in Alaska because Id driven up there in my pickup truck. So 400 bucks was less than I was burning through on my road trip. That was my cheap week.
My one little bit of advice is to take a pair of binoculars. I didnt and wished that I had.

(3,414 posts)comforts of home, and quite a list of things to do and see. If I can go, this will be my first cruise.
Oh, and BTW, I really get a kick out of your posts!

It can be a game breaker.
