Just saw "Knives Out". Great movie! (No spoilers!)

It's a really great twist on a house-murder-mystery: You know, the party when everyone's a suspect?

But with some great surprises that had me guessing until at least 2/3 of the way. (not many mysteries keep me in suspense, anymore. I can either follow the breadcrumbs, or they just plain spell out the premise)

Great cast as well.

And, some really great comic moments as well. It was really neat to see Daniel Craig take on a very different sort of character.

Highly recommended!!

1. I'd like to add a non-spoiler-y thing about Daniel Craig's performance...

He does a regional/ethnic American accent in this film. His backstory is minimally alluded to beyond what is necessary to justify his character's involvement in the plot, and the specific regionality of this accent is not necessary/critical/relevant to the plot. As such it seems to be an arbitrary decision on the part of the filmmakers.

Thankfully, unlike some notoriously and distractingly bad film accent performances (a la Kevin Costner's Robin Hood), he was pretty consistent throughout, imo. As far as on-screen accents go, my philosophy is that they must be precise first and foremost, and secondarily be accurate if they can. Now, I am not from the region in question, so I'm not in a position to praise or damn very much, but I was satisfied that it added a little bit of specificity to his character without being hugely distracting. But the first time he spoke on screen, I did say to myself to myself "Oh, crap, this is gonna be a high-wire act." He didn't fall though.

2. I saw him interviewed on Colbert where he said that it's easier for Brits to do Southern accents

than the "standard" American accent.

He didn't know why that was so, he had been told that by his dialect coach.
But he said he did find it actually easier to do than "regular" American.

Interesting! I wonder why that is?

3. Right. I saw it tonight and the person I saw it with had an observation about the accent.

He said that he played with his English accent in all films but this one and one other. Both had a southern draw. He feels that it is easier for a British accent to be turned into southern rather than the more non accented American sound.

It's still rated at a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. It contains an excellent cast and has an entertaining plot, definitely worth watching.
