The ad is from 1931. I was born in the 50's and these were gone even then.

(2,302 posts)A similar little treat. They were various fruit-flavored hard candies, rectangular to distinguish them I guess, from Lifesavers.
Come to think of it, remember all the flavors Lifesavers used to come in? I especially loved the ChocoMint.

Certs "mints" do too - even the fruit flavored ones. I haven't seen these for decades - I assumed they were discontinued.

(10,885 posts)The first NY town over the line was Port Chester, home of the Lifesavers Factory. At one time my mother worked there.
The best production days were the days they were making the Butter Rum. For miles around, the comforting, sweet, warm smell of butter rum permeated the air. It was my favorite flavor.

(6,831 posts)They carry Regal Crown Sour Cherry hard candies, but sorry, no Beech-nut. I did order some Beeman's Gum, Blackjack Gum and Clove Gum from them recently.

(2,550 posts)Curious about Necco Wafers history? Heres a little background info. Necco wafers are made by the New England Confectionery Company (NECCO
see that?) in Revere, MA, but while NECCO the company wasnt formed until 1901, the wafer candies have been made the exact same way since 1847. That means that while Abraham Lincoln was in the White House and Thomas Edison was inventing the light bulb, the familiar rolls of flavored wafers were for sale (wouldnt you like to guess which flavor would have been each mans favorite?). During the early 20th century explorers took them to the Arctic and the South Pole, while the army sent them to soldiers overseas during WWII because the wafers didnt melt or spoil.

(36,266 posts)Beech-Nut started out selling smoked hams and now sells only baby food, apparently. They've been bought and sold several times.
