Great movie, and definitely better than The Last Jedi. And I did love how they tied in all the previous Star Wars movies, it was a fitting sendoff for the Skywalker Saga.
Although I will say the 30 minutes of commercials before the movie - 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕 x 100,000,000,000,000

(67,413 posts)On the screen for just a few seconds with a voice over. was an ad for the Los Angeles times newspaper.
Just a logo and a bit of text. seemed shocking at the time

(16,862 posts)I took my son on Sat to the 8:40 AM show. After we sat through 40 mins of previews, I texted my wife to let her know the movie hadn't started....and our son was rolling his eyes at each additional preview!
I thought the movie was fantastic and a fitting ending to this trilogy!

(100,080 posts)I'd happily pay an extra couple of dollars to see a movie if it means not having to watch the damn commercials. Because fuck commercials.

(58,896 posts)A very fitting end to the Skywalker saga and plenty for Incels and the alt.right to hate. I'm going to miss having Star Wars around for the holidays.

(3,627 posts)Future movies are more likely to be $movie-type set in the Star Wars universe, as Solo was a caper movie and Rogue One was a more conventional non-epic war movie.
I agree with the OP that IX was one of the better exemplars of the Big IX.

(100,080 posts)But there will be plenty of other Star Wars movies to be made for the foreseeable future.

(100,080 posts)We get enough of the advertising garbage every day, can't we get a break from it for 10 minutes? I mean we do not need to be reminded every minute of the day that Geico, Progressive and State Farm exist. Either we buy their damn products or we don't.

(498 posts)I thought last jedi was terrible. The whole time I was watching the movie I was just like wtf... I can't believe they want to let rian johnson do his own trilogy after that joke of a movie.
I did find it was slightly better when I did some self-editing I skipped all the really stupid parts.. like the space ship chase and the absolutely, horribly, pointless excursion in that gambling bit. yuck.
Rise of Skywalker was much better. I wish JJ had done the whole trilogy.
Walking out of that movie I felt satisfied.
And my daughter and I got there right on time... for only 10 minutes of commercials

(3,627 posts)He does really great visuals and has a good sense of how to keep his characters sympathetic and interesting, but I wish someone would sit him down and explain to him that SPACE IS BIG. He's done this now in both Star Wars and Star Trek, making it seem like the whole galaxy is only 50 miles across. I don't care how long ago or far away it was, you cannot stand on the surface of a planet and see with your bare eyes things that are going on in another star system.

(10,272 posts)I wanted 2 things from this film in no particular order...I wanted Rey to be No One Important, and I wanted Kylo Ren to be dead at the end of the film.
I got HALF of what I wanted lol!

(4,858 posts)...I'd put it #3, after the two originals. Daisy Ridley is a better actor than any of the three original stars, and her Rey is an excellent foundation for the trilogy. I will say, I guessed who she was immediately when I saw The Force Awakens... and I was impressed by how good the effects were. The space ships, the alien planets, the giant cities, everything--they had a "real" look, and didn't look like ostentatious digital effects, showing off. This was a good send-off to the saga, and much, much better than any film in the second trilogy was...

(100,080 posts)I'd rank it somewhere in the middle. It's no A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back or Force Awakens, but it's still pretty damn good. Definitely better than a couple of movies in the franchise

(4,608 posts)And that is a weird feeling. Usually Im immediately thumbs up or down. Maybe I need to sleep on it and process everything? Right now I mostly want to smack Ben/Kylo around a little.

(100,080 posts)OK that's one slight spoiler in the movie but it's a very minor one at that.

(3,492 posts)Nice character arcs and development, visually stunning and a satisfying ending. Lots of nice callbacks and Easter eggs too.
Good stuff.
