I have a Tracfone now. I'm thinking of (finally) getting smartphone. Supposedly, Tracfone has knocked a few bucks off some of their smartphones.
I understand that these are not the newest, most feature-laden phones. Would someone here care to offer some advice on the various models? Get this; don't get that; make sure it has these features; that's overpriced; and so forth.
It's possible that, because I'm an existing Tracfone customer, I can see phones and prices that anyone who is not a Tracfone customer cannot see. Also, I live in Alexandria, Virginia, which matters. Some phones will work with the providers there, and others will not.

DU Loungers helped me a whole bunch with my plumbing questions. I figure smartphones couldn't be much different.
Thanks.

(17,865 posts)to store Kindle Unlimited books and audio books that I obtained during a trial offer. I like it, but Tracfone stopped supporting it. My new one does have twice the memory so I don't have problems storing larger Audio books from Hoopla.

You buy a unlocked smartphone from whom ever you like.
Tracfone sell a sim kit, $0.99 on Amazon.
Just follow the directions and your set.

(17,865 posts)for $40. I have been happy with it. I don't do much with it - mostly phone, text, Audible, Kindle Read, and Hoopla. Big thing is to turn off all those automatic alerts. I also disabled Facebook for obvious reasons.
It costs me $13.20 a month. I liked my older ZTE phone more, but they were stopping support of it. It cost me about $9/mo. if I remember correctly (allowed to sign up for a 90 day plan instead of a 60 day one). I continue to build minutes and texts, and only occasionally need to purchase 4G (none since going to the new plan).

(57,580 posts)I have a lot of existing minutes on my current Tracfone. I'm not sure how they'd roll over to smartphone minutes.
