Game of Thrones regulars,

First, I have to admit that I'm not a regular watcher, nor a reader of the novels, or even close to aware of who every character is on that show.

But, if you'll indulge me, please tell me who that creepy fucker was on the horse in the final scene of the finale and what will he and his horde of the undead will mean for the rest of the series.

Thanks

I thought they were basically zombies, but I guess they may be more clever and organized than that. It means that shits about to get all epic and real. They're the reason that the wall was built, why the Night's Watch exist, etc.

The White Walkers, referred to as the Others in the books, are a mythological race mentioned in ancient legends and stories from the time of the First Men and the Children of the Forest. Eight thousand years before Robert's Rebellion, a winter known as the Long Night lasted a generation. In the darkness and cold of the Long Night, the White Walkers descended upon Westeros from the farthest north, the polar regions of the Lands of Always Winter. None knew why they came, but they killed all in their path, reanimating the dead as wights to kill the living at their command. Eventually the peoples of Westeros rallied and in a conflict known as the War for the Dawn, the White Walkers were defeated and driven back into the uttermost north, with the Wall raised to bar their return. In the present day, most believe they never existed and are just the stuff of legends, and even the few who believe they did once exist think they went extinct thousands of years ago. Certainly, none has been seen for thousands of years.

Unfortunately for me, the totality of the narrative is a bit overwhelming.

It's a little hard for me to follow because I'm not aware of all the intricacies.

With all these characters and themes around, it's a bit of a jumble

They're the reason the Night Watchers guard the Wall. We're just now making our way into that world. Jon Snow is our alter ego discovering the truth behind all the hideous legends.

I'm delight they have ZOMBIES!!!!! This season has finally showed us some fascinating dark magic.

For your purposes, when characters say "Winter is coming", they're talking about those fuckers, whether they know it, or not.
