Please hold my calls. The Movies! network is showing "Bullitt."

It started at 8:00 p.m. in the Eastern time zone.

So many 1967 Ford Galaxie 500s: taxis, unmarked cop cars.... I used to own a 1967 Ford Country Squire. I FOOLISHLY gave it away 25 years ago. What was I thinking? Well, to be honest, every system in it needed overhaul. Following said overhaul, it still wouldn't have been worth a whole lot. But the memories....

San Francisco must have been a fantastic place to live circa 1967 - 1968.

Oh, for a time machine.

Steve McQueen is as cool without a cowboy hat as he is with one.

Gotta go; the TV is in the kitchen.

1967 four-door Ford sedans appear in just about every scene.

Just before the chase, McQueen gets driven around town in the back seat of a 1967 four-door Ford Custom taxi, retracing the dead mom accountant's path. The Custom is the fleet car version of the Galaxie 500.

There are hundreds of cars in that movie, including a green Volkswagen Beetle that gets passed over and over in the chase scene.

My Country Squire had a 390. I easily recognized the insignia designating that engine behind the front wheel well.

The chase scene with the Pan Am 707s has ended. Nice PSA 727! {In the wake of an especially harrowing near miss:} Aaaaaaarrrrgggghhhh! I can't believe they did that!

Well, that's that.

APRIL 17 – 23: 1968 FORD MUSTANG FASTBACK – BULLITT – '559

The “Highland Green” Mustang piloted by legendary car enthusiast and actor Steve McQueen through the streets of San Francisco in the visceral cops-and-mobsters flick Bullitt has become an indelible part of international car culture. By the 1980s though, the car was thought to have vanished. It wasn’t until 2018 that the car was finally shown to the world again by the Kiernan family, who have owned it since 1974. Featuring rich patina from a life well lived, the big block Mustang is unrestored and retains many of its modifications from filming for the movie.

Historic Vehicle Association

If you missed out on seeing the original Bullitt Mustang at the Detroit Auto Show in January, don't fret because it will be on display in Washington D.C. in the shadow of the Washington Monument.

The car, which had been thought lost for decades, made its grand reentry into the spotlight when it was driven out onto the stage of the Ford booth alongside the new 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt. Understandably, the car generated a lot of excitement from both the motoring public in general and from the National Historic Vehicle Register.

The 1968 Ford Mustang fastback used as the hero car in the film Bullitt will be on display in Washington, D.C. for a month.
Historic Vehicle Association

The National Historic Vehicle Register is a project by the Historic Vehicle Association (HVA) to identify and preserve historically significant vehicles in America. So far, the register has just 24 vehicles, of which the 1968 Ford Bullitt Mustang is one.
