(61,698 posts)The quick test for easier, more obvious object pronoun is to leave out the other person in the object.
"The fart was heard by Simon and I." You'd never say, "The fart was heard by I."
I'm not a grammar expert. But some mistakes are more obvious than others.

My late husband was deaf . We attended many deaf events such as deaf camping. I would be the only hearing person there. Sitting around a campfire and in the darkness I could hear random farting through the evening.
