I found that pesky movie closet.

A while back somebody asked about a movie that had a running gag about an overstuffed closet that when opened spilled everything out with a lot of noise and clamor.

It was noted that many movies have used this sight-gag and that the Fibber McGee and Molly radio show did it regularly using just sound effects.

I think I found the movie (in fact it's a series of films). It's the Ma and Pa Kettle movies (they made 10 of them starting with "The Egg and I" in 1947.) When all the stuff tumbles out Pa Kettle in his rocking chair always says, "I've gotta clean that closet out....one of these days." It's a direct quote from Fibber McGee in a nice homage.
