They will get squirted with water if they get on the kitchen counter!

I do reward them with bacon.

...spinach and arugula. The moment he hears the crackly sounds of the bags they come in, he is right there pleading for his favorite veggie treat.

why I put Ember, the food hog cat, into another room when I'm prepping or cooking food. As I noted in another thread, she just will not stay off the counter when I have food out. I love cats, but can't stand them getting into food.

but no way would I let them get that close to the cooking area. Think about those little paws--may have just come out of the litterbox. Totally not sanitary.

Those cats were adorable, though. I see a cat and I just want to hug on it.

counter when I was asleep or away from home. So before I put any food on the counter, e.g. dough to roll for pie or to knead for bread, I wipe the counter down thoroughly. I would do that even if I did not have a cat, but it's especially necessary since I do have one.

But he's 16 and can no longer jump directly onto the counter unless the step stool is out. But it doesn't really matter because there is so much ambient cat hair floating around. I have come to regard cat hair as a condiment.

where the paws have been that bothers me. Not to mention attempts to nibble at the food or lick it. Mine just won't stay off so I put her in another room with her toys until I finish. But I found some advice online that I want to try - putting double sided tape on the part of the counter where she tries to go. It means losing some counter space.for myself but might be worth it.
