HBO Reportedly Cancels 'Game of Thrones' Prequel Starring Naomi Watts BUT ANOTHER IS COMING

Sorry, fellow GOT fans, but looks like impeachment hearings will have to be our obsession for the time-being.

A pilot for the project, created by George R.R. Martin and Jane Goldman, was shot in June.

A prequel is not coming.
Deadline reports that the hugely hyped prequel to “Game of Thrones” is not moving forward.

HBO has reportedly scrapped plans for the series from showrunner Jane Goldman, which starred Naomi Watts and took place thousands of years before the original series’ storyline. “Game of Thrones” wrapped its massively popular eight-season run in May.

The network declined to confirm the report.
The network shot a full pilot for the untitled project in Northern Ireland in June, per Entertainment Weekly.

The prequel, which was created by George R. R. Martin and Goldman — who wrote the screenplays for “Kick-Ass,” “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” and “X-Men: First Class” — takes place way before the wars, incestuous romances and dragons that many of the original series’ fans have come to know and accept love.

The series was supposed to explore “the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour,” a logline from the network said. “Only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend — it’s not the story we think we know,” it continued.

BUT, they just leaked THIS:

HBO Unveils Sweeping New ‘Game Of Thrones’ Prequel, ‘House Of The Dragon’
The series takes place 300 years before the events of “Game of Thrones.”

Hours after canceling one “Game of Thrones” prequel, HBO revealed it already had a replacement in the works.

The new series, “House of the Dragon,” will be co-created by “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin and Ryan Condal, who also co-created the USA Network series “Colony.” HBO did not say when the series would premiere.

An image released by the network noted that the series would be based on Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood, a history of House Targaryen set 300 years before the events in “Game of Thrones.”
The book’s description notes:

“Fire & Blood begins their tale with the legendary Aegon the Conqueror, creator of the Iron Throne, and goes on to recount the generations of Targaryens who fought to hold that iconic seat, all the way up to the civil war that nearly tore their dynasty apart.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin and Condal will write the script for the 10-episode series, with Condal and Miguel Sapochnik serving as showrunners. Sapochnik previously directed several episodes of “Game of Thrones,” and won an Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for the “Battle of the Bastards” episode from its sixth season.

would have given some consideration to how D&D burned down GoT's IP before giving them $200M. Star Wars just jumped clear of their own train wreck by pushing them out the door (needless to say they have their own set of problems).

The announcement also confirms in my mind that Martin never intends to finish The Winds of Winter, and A Dream of Spring will always be just a dream.
