Germany is not known for its beaches, but apparently surfing does occur in the (cold) Baltic.

It was a hurricane, early 1990's. The 'cane was brushing the N.J. shore and I was going near the shore. I decided to stop at Belmar, climb the stone wall and look at the waves.

As I was on top of the the stone wall, a wave came crashing over the wall. This was about 50 feet from where I was. On the road below, a Toyota was driving south. The wave hit the Toyota and suddenly, the Toyota was driving north. --- The wave had turned the car completely around.

The wave had to be at least 50ft high, given the height of the wall. If it had hit be, I would have been carried about 75 yards, across the roadway.

I got off the wall and headed home.

Consider diving into the swell. Glad he managed to stay ahead of the worst of the break...but I was sweating for him.
