The closest two were W in 2000 - 271/266
and Wilson in 1912 - 277/254
the two greatest disasters in US history.

Trump 'won' 304 / 277

How Doonesbury could have forgotten W (who did not do that much 'better' in 2004 - 286/251) is beyond me.

sometime during the Bush/Cheney presidency. Too many wing-nut subscribers probably threatened to cancel their subscriptions. Paper still exists but it just went through bankruptcy. Reading is a dying art for many Republicans.

In its place was Beetle Bailey. I was pissed. Had the paper's editors actually replaced Doonesbury with that dinosaur (apologies to BB fans)? But, I discovered it a few pages from its normal spot. They usually run it on the last page in one column from top tp bottom, but the candy panel was too big for that, so it was relocated.

Given their constant spiel lately about trying to feature "both sides" of every argument, it would not have surprised me.
