I have a new family member!

Her name is Rosie. She's 2 years old and one of the sweetest kitties I've ever had. She appears to be a tortie point Siamese with beautiful blue eyes. I saved her from being brought to the Humane Society last week. She was adopted from the Humane Society when she was a small kitten by a sweet lady who recently had to enter assisted living after a major health event. I'm acquainted with her daughter who is not only allergic to cats but she also can't have pets in the place she's living. So it was me or the Humane Society.

I brought her home after a checkup at the vet. She lived in my bathroom for about a week to get her acquainted with my two spoiled ones. Sammy, my older cat, couldn't care less. Her attitude was, "Oh, well. Another one." Otis was another story. He was not happy. I think he was more scared than anything. I would bring Rosie out for "visits" in a large, soft-sided "playpen" type enclosure so Rosie and Otis could get used to each other. I'd put her back in the bathroom when the hissing and growling started. I did this for several days. Then on Sunday I bit the bullet and opened the bathroom door. I took out Otis and Sammy's favorite toy, "Da Bird," a fishing pole-type thing with feathers attached to the string and started to play. Soon Rosie joined in and everyone played together.

It's been smooth sailing ever since. When I turned in last night, all three cats were sleeping on my bed. Life is good. Here's Rosie:

Sorry about the boxes the background marring the picture--I was waiting for it to stop raining to take them out to the recycling bin.

If it's not too late, you should save those boxes for Rosie. Our cats love boxes and will play in and with them for hours.

Is that a tiger painting hanging on the wall above the buffet table?

boxes and paper bags. Typical. The picture is actually a Chinese silk embroidery of several tigers. I got it as a gift about 1980 from a former beau. It wasn't new then, so I have no idea how old it is. His family was from China and brought it over sometime between 1958 and 1975. Our relationship didn't work out, but I just adore the picture. It's about 5' x 4'. Here's a better angle:

Sometimes, I will cut shapes into the box and secure ribbons and shoelaces in those shapes so that our cats can have something to bat at. They seem to love those items hanging from the box and it keeps them entertained. Both cats get especially crazy when I roll aluminum foil into balls. They chase them all over the house and they get rowdy chasing those balls.

I can see why you adore the Chinese silk embroidery, it is positively stunning!

Or as well crafted as yours. Hubby bought on 1st trip to China but I've never had it mounted because, secretly, I don't like it enough quite enough but should have it mounted. Perhaps my future d.i.l. would like it.

I'm partial to Siamese anyway. Had two and both were the best cats EVER.

I found a tortie point kitten in a hay barn, took her home. She was an amazing animal and I still feel sad about losing her. They have quite the personality.
