(13,421 posts)Her mom is a very dear friend to our family and she lost her dog a few months ago to bites from a copperhead. Darla was a special needs pit bull who was trying to protect her people from the snake at the campsite. They found Darla dead and then found the dead snake. Darla had been bitten five times defending her family.
Horrible thing, and we all were in shock and horrified at the same time.
Pitties are terrific dogs, and if you can accept terrier energy and joy, you will have a most wonderful dog to love. I'm grandma to two of them!

(22,537 posts)I figured the toad, her enemy, was bullying her. On and on and on. I finally went out and saw where she was doing the doggy two step...lunge forward, head down, 4steps back repeat ad nauseam. So I looked. A young rattler, said to be more dangerous than an adult...no venom control. Got hubby to take care of it.
Don't forget...there is a rattlesnake venom vaccination. We've now had our friendly reminder. Doggy wasn't bitten, despite trying her best!
