Years ago, I inherited two cats because I promised my dying sister and mom I would take them. They both originally belonged to my sister. When she passed, my mom took one, and I flew the other one back across country with me after the funeral. Then my mom died, and I had the other cat flown to Calif, where I was at the time. People thought I was nuts.

You make a solemn promise to someone that you will take care of one of the most important things in their lives when they're gone. You don't renege on that.
