Damn! Fix this yard is a put on!
The house is in Winter Park, Central Florida so an article was written about the Fix this yard that aired this morning on A&E. I read the article yesterday and it gave the background of the house. I'm watching the show and the discrepancies are enormous. The show makes it sound like the people bought the house and moved in six months ago. Problem is that they didn't move in. You can't see any furniture in the background when they open the door, and the article clearly states that the house was vacant.
"He learned in December that his Winter Park house had been selected from among about 12 homes under consideration. It was vacant and easy for film crews to access, which probably helped, he said.
And yet the owners meet the crew at the door and there's talk of an "ambush" and the wife says something like, "Oh, look cameras!"
And then, the owner says at the end of the article that hopefully he doesn't "come out as the homeowner who doesn't know what he's doing." I understand his concern because he's an investor not a homeowner.
He's actually in real estate. "Courech, co-owner of the real-estate-investment company Meridian Capital Holdings LLC, bought the house for $170,000 in October with the intention of rehabbing it and soon got an email from a television producer who had seen a photo of it on the multiple-listing service."
That said, the fixing the yard part was very enjoyable to watch, however, the truth is that the amount they claimed they used for the redo was understated. "A Tampa-based company that did the work estimated the job would have retailed for $15,000 to $20,000, but some of the labor and material were donated."
