I looked but couldn't find a forum for crafts or sewing.
I want to buy a pattern for sewing an evening gown. Google just refers me to more and more searches. (Google is doing that a lot lately.) Can anyone point me in the right direction?

(46,051 posts)I never heard of Joann fabrics. I try not to give Jeff Bezos my money, but I'll try the other two. Amazon as a last resort.

(268 posts)My nearby Walmarts all have sewing patterns, but if this is your first sewing project, you might want to get a pattern labeled EASY. Some patterns are more difficult than others. The fewer pattern pieces, the better. Good luck and have fun!

(46,051 posts)I just found someone great. Unfortunately, she doesn't speak much English, so I want to be able to show her exactly what I want. I don't sew.

(11,916 posts)but before you buy, put that pattern number into Amazon and see what their price comes up as. I was able to get a Joanns $15 Vogue pattern for $7 from Amazon. Also, a lot of times Joann's doesn't have a view of the back of the pattern where it tells you the material types its suited for, yardage, any additional notions you may need. It pays to check the other sites like Amazon or brands for the same pattern because a lot of them will show the back of the pattern package. At least then you'll have the additional info.
Also, if you're going to go to Joanns, download their app if you have a smart phone or sign up online for their coupons. Sometimes you get 50% off one item, sometimes it's 20% off your entire purchase. They also have pattern sales - one weekend Vogue will be on sale 50% off, next week it'll be another brand.

(17,006 posts)check for coupons. They usually have a few. One of my faves is 40% off one item and one cut of fabric counts as one item. Its saved me a bunch.

(34,136 posts)Also, you can buy new ones from McCalls and Simplicity online.
https://www.mccall.com/ - offers McCalls, Butterick, Vogue, and Quik Sew patterns.
https://www.simplicity.com/
I prefer Simplicity patterns in general, but their selection these days is less varied. I did find one old pattern (in new condition) from an Etsy seller.
