(28,125 posts)This guy has a long, long history of dealing with pitties, so he does have quite a bit of expertise.
I've some mixed feelings but in general, am supportive of folks trying to save the good pitties - yes, there are such critters. The best trained, best behaved dog I have ever seen in my life was owned by a dog trainer we knew. In the middle of a class of ~15 crazy young dogs being trained, this pittie was so chilled that he never let the yelping, biting pups bother him a bit.
Yrs ago we adopted a pittie as companion for our sweet Border Collie. This pittie ended up dominating our girl b.c. to the point that he was actually mean to her. He was gone, given away, w/o regret on our part.
My son just adopted the sweetest 9mo pittie mixed. She's a doll and is working out really well. Is even good with his 2 cats.
Blanket statements bother me.

(10,434 posts)As are breed bans.
I'm old enough to remember when German Shepherds, Dobermans, and Rottweilers were all considered "bad" dogs, and "killer" breeds. None of them are bad because of their breed.
I have a border collie who was at a shelter a little more than 5 years ago. There are at least 6 pit bulls in my neighborhood and almost every one of them thinks they are her best friend when we go running or walking by. They are among the friendliest dogs I know. There is one about 6 blocks away that doesn't seem to get along with other dogs, and the owners are good about keeping him in their yard.
It's really about being a responsible dog owner.
