(1,821 posts)I was lucky to have both sets of grandparents and maternal great grandparents.
They were Grand mom (last name) Grandpop (last name). It was a mouthful. But it was how we kept them straight.

(14,811 posts)My Mom's parents were just Grandma & Grandpa. My grandkids call me Paw Paw because that's how my granddaughter (who's the oldest) pronounced it when she was little. It just stuck.

(14,018 posts)of my maternal grandmother "Gramma Lu" (Lulu) and heard a lot about her husband Grampa Hank (Henry.)
My paternal grandmother died when my father was 13, and though I was 4 when my paternal grandfather died, I don't know that I met him. Since I only discussed them with my father, I called them "your mother" and "your father."
I clearly remember asking my mom at three how come Gramma Lu was so ugly. She calmly explained how beautiful she really was and about we get wrinkly with age.

(23,987 posts)Grandma Maxine, and Uncle Ben. 13 grandkids on that side. My dads folks were Grandma Breta and Grandpa Stan. 4 grands on that side They all called all grandkids by our given names. None of us kids had any true nicknames from our parents, just shortened versions of first names, such as Ben for Benjamin, or Chris for Christopher. My cousin Richard was called Dick when he was a kid, but has gone by Richard for decades now.
Carolyn and Bill (paternal cousins)
Martha and Tom (me and my late brother - died way too young at 23)
Barbie, Debbie and Brian
Richard, Melissa, and Jenny - Jenny is also no longer among us
Ben III, Lyssa, Brad, Barry, and Chris(topher) - my uncle on my moms side converted to Catholicism to marry my aunt and they abided by the no contraception mandate -
My own dad was also named Stan, and it felt a little odd initially to hear my kids calling my dad Grandpa Stan.
