Went to a park with my metal detector where there is a soccer field, there was a soccer game 2 days ago. (Even in the heat!)
Under the bleachers, found $12 in change.
I'm really enjoying this!

(17,984 posts)I have a question, though. Are you checking coins to see if any are rare? After your last post about the Greek festival, I started looking into rare modern coins and found out quite a bit. I guess that adds another dimension to the treasure hunt.

Fun, hobby, though as long as you take care.

(7,719 posts)This was back in the eighties. I was detecting an old house (1800s) in our historical district and found 42 coins! One was a huge silver coin. When I got home I cleaned it up. There was a presidents picture on the first side I cleaned, so I knew it was the real thing. Then, I cleaned the back side... ..Shell coin game token. Bummer. It was aluminum. I still have everything I have ever found. Got a really nice bronze medallion with a dragon on one side and "In memory of landing in Japan" on the other.

(70,208 posts)someone posts of a local board asking for someone to search for a ring or such lost at the beach. sometimes there is a reward. usually someone steps up, and often the item is found.
if i were you, i would print up some business cards offering your services.
i mean, you would get paid to create happy endings.

Couple weeks ago at a beach a guy asked me if I had found any keys, he had lost his.
Sorry to say I hadn't.

(2,875 posts)It was in a local grocery store a few days before Christmas.
(I recall the time. We had just cut a tree from a local farm.) I fiddled with it and got it out.
It was an 1853 half-dime; trouble was it had been punched and had a little square hole near the top. Everyone I ever showed it to agreed that diminished the value a lot. Somewhere in the next few decades I lost it. Oh, well.
I hadn't thought of it for years till I was executor for an elderly friend who had about 20 pounds of coins to dispose of as part of the estate.
I checked on line to get an approximation of the values. Buyers all wanted to buy the lot or meet after the coin show to look more carefully. Some coins were good, a few very good and for the others, they'd say 'go ahead and spend these'. It was all in all a lot of travel for what the estate got back from it, but a bit of an education.
I wonder what ever happened to that old coin.
Good luck with that detector.
