The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI have successfully evicted one cicada from my house!
I do not know how many are squatting here, since they tend to be quiet for an extended period, while now and then making sounds suggesting the house is in the path of a great tornado
Anyway, tonight I found somebody flying noisily into the walls and chattering loudly
This time, after capture, I walked halfway around the house before flinging my prisoner into the outer darkness

(118,295 posts)But I have to open the door to get back inside. That was the point at which I was defeated last time: the cicada simply made a 180 degree turn and then flew fast
This time, I counted on the fact that cicadas cannot navigate nearly as well as I can, and I reintroduced the cicada to the great outdoors at a place from which I had to make three 90 degrees turns at the proper times. In my experience, cicadas can execute 90 degree turns, but the notion "at the proper time" seems to be tricky for them

Kudos for safely escorting it outside. You won a friend for the next life!

(25,862 posts)The screech of them was overwhelming. Once one got inside our house and it was like having an ancient, primitive creature there.
So glad I live where they aren't.
