Our wet, cool Spring played havoc on my planting on time, and then more unusually wet weather put me in fear of everything rotting. I did lose my San Marzano Roma tomato plants, and the Golden and Roma I started from seed are still in the blossom stage BUT the Early Girl and Grape Tomato, along with some of the sweet peppers and yellow summer squash are giving me hope. The zucchini is a little behind the yellow but finally showing signs of squash.
Still, I'll have to supplement with purchases from my local Farmer's Market. But, that's ok. Next year will be better.

One good thing about this heat wave we are experiencing, it's GREAT for the veg garden. If we have an extended, warm Autumn, I should get a decent tomato and pepper harvest.

(60,018 posts)Tomato harvest... relatively dry weather meant less foliage disease.
Blogging about it lots at craiglehoullier.com
Lots of pics on Instagram and twitter @nctomatoman ( doing a variety of the day # dailyplant2019

(26,289 posts)I didn't get the plants in until the first week of June - a good 2 weeks later than usual, and the garden was flooded for what felt like an extended period of time.
Now we have the kind of hot days and warm nights the tomato plants LOVE. Hopefully the Golden and Roma will start fruiting, soon.
I used to plant a whole lot of different types but it got to be a bit much for me to handle. Next year I'll have my niece and her new hubby living close by and we will be expanding the tomato varieties.

(60,018 posts)And have thousands of varieties . Tomatoes, lots of peppers and eggplants too

(26,289 posts)I was thinking about including eggplant in next year's garden. I want to make and freeze some traditional Ratatouille.
I cut back on the peppers, this year - just some sweet and some ghost. My 'nephew in law' loves hot peppers, and I just love peppers, so next year I have no doubt we will be expanding the pepper varieties, as well as an expanded tomato crop.
So weird that I'm already excited about next year's garden, when this year's hasn't even been harvested, yet!

(26,289 posts)There was still standing water, in June and I thought I lost 3 big tomato plants. One is hanging in there - still don't know if it will produce. Then, I was weeding along the fence line and found two "volunteer" plants. So, I transplanted them, and they took! I have no idea what kind of tomato they are, but that makes it even better.
I make and freeze a lot of stewed tomatoes for stews, chili and soups, all Winter long.
