Pepsi's latest product: Water in a can

Pepsi's plan to reduce plastic waste includes ditching plastic bottles for cans.

The company said Friday that its Aquafina-brand water will soon be sold in aluminum cans at US fast food and restaurant chains beginning as soon as next year. The company is testing out a broader rollout to retail stores.

Some environmental advocates have championed aluminum over plastic, saying the former is far easier to recycle. And corporations from all types of industries are working to find sustainable alternatives as the world's plastics problem continues to pile up: An estimated 91% of all plastic waste has never been recycled .

"Tackling plastic waste is one of my top priorities and I take this challenge personally," PepsiCo CEO Ramon Laguarta said in a statement. "We are doing our part to address the issue head on by reducing, recycling and reinventing our packaging."

I can't remember the last time I bought a bottle of water but then I'm highly aware of staying hydrated

Most people bring an insulated water bottle with them and refill as needed.

At home I drink tap water with ice. While traveling in my car, I have an insulated water bottle that I refill where I can get potable water - but some places will not let me refill my bottle. Usually then I end up having to buy a cup, fill it with ice & water to transfer to my bottle.

A few places don't even have that option so I have to buy bottled water for refills, which I dislike.

place to fill them when you are out and about. Sometimes I do take a bottle of water in a patient's home. I do that if it seems helpful to build rapport. With some cultures it just feels rude to refuse and it's hard enough refusing food they offer because I am vegan.

I understand that they seldom add ice to drinks so I am not expecting ice machines in the hotels like we have here - but maybe I'll be wrong.

Then there is the other problem from the inevitable results of drinking lots of water...

For around $40 you can start up a filtering pitcher you keep in the refrigerator.
Filter replacements every 3-6 months for around $10 average.
The few bottles we buy outside home, we now re-use and fill them from our filtering pitcher.

Makes our city water taste great.
We think it tastes as good or better than many bottled brands.
FYI.

I think there are brands other than Brita out there as well.

The strange thing is, A-B has been canning water for decades - ONLY to be donated for disasters, they don't sell it - but until Bud made it the subject of their Super Bowl ad one year, no one who'd never been in a disaster area knew they did it.
