Wikipedia is your friend: “According to Kia Motors, the name "Kia" derives from the Sino-Korean characters "ki" (起, "to come out&quot and "a" (亞, which stands for (East) Asia), it is roughly translated as "to come out of the east."“

Kia was founded in 1944.

I once successfully completed a Sunday NYT crossword by supplying KIA as a mil. stat sharing the initial letter with KPH for speedo. reading.

The answer key had an M where I put the K.

But that’s an accident of history. Kia Motors was founded before you lost your friends and its name is an Anglicized representation of Chinese characters. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where they’d have to take the feelings of a few triggered people into account when they sell tens of millions of cars worldwide to people who speak hundreds of languages where “KIA” as an acronym is meaningless. Or means something else like the Kazakhstan Intelligence Agency.

The name “Jeep” actually derives from a US military acronym.

What does Kia mean?

The name Kia is of Persian origin.

The meaning of Kia is "the kings, royal".

It is also of Swedish origin, where its meaning is "follower of Christ".

Kia is used as both a boys and girls name.

It consists of 3 letters and 2 syllables and is pronounced Ki-a.
