...you know...as a fan of the Morse books since the first one was published, it occurs to me occasionally that I just may have spent a little *too* much of my life immersed in the intricacies of the Oxford Police Department in the 1960s-2010s era. Then, of course, I come to my senses... and will continue to follow it, likely, into the 2020s and 30s, with *The Inspector Hathaway Mysteries* and maybe even back to the 1940s and 50s, with *The Young Fred Thursday Mysteries*. And if they get someone who's just ten percent as good as Roger Allam, it will be worth watching...still have trouble seeing Shaun Evans growing up into John Thaw, but they're both so good, it hardly matters.

(7,572 posts)I had a hard time following the plot developments in the second one. Need to watch it again. It's also hard to watch Morse be treated so dismissively by his current police mates. Maybe it needs to develop into a more cohesive story.

(921 posts)I love the idea of the young Fred Thursday series. And I think we need a stand alone Hathaway series too.
I think it may be time to re-read all the Morse books!

(6,261 posts)This show goes from strength to strength with hardly a dud episode. Love the cinematography, love the pacing and the mostly understated acting of all the characters. Of the 3 (Morse, Lewis, Endeavour), and I love them all, I would say this is probably my favourite. We started rewatching from the beginning recently and got up to Series 5, episode 2 last night.
We've already seen all of the 6th series on ITV and it's excellent.
Since Thursday is never mentioned in Morse, I have a slight apprehension of doom for the character. I have a feeling something will happen to him before long. Hope I'm wrong.
