WTF San Diego?

Effing scooters everywhere. Assholes riding them on sidewalks, down the middle of streets, and through private property. Then they dump them anywhere.

Saw two accidents while we were there. A drunk ran into a group of people at an arts and crafts show, and some guy with a little girl on the scooter clipped a bollard sending the poor kid flying to the ground.

Last year was the first year, and it was pretty bad. This year, anecdotally speaking, it seems to be better. People are using them for short jaunts, (mostly) piloting them with a degree of caution, and (mostly) parking them responsibly.

I still don't like them very much, but they're less irritating this year.

the way. Not to mention the idiots looking at their cell phones as they drive them. A bartender where we ate told us how in the morning they have to clear them out of the open air seating area where they’ve been thrown over the railings.

handicapped and elderly citizens. Assuming these things have an embedded electronic I.D., why can't the city fine the rental companies for littering and causing a safety hazard? Make them included a bar code or other means of I.D. so a city worker could just scan them before removal.

Assuming the company knows who rented the unit, they could in turn charge the user a fee as compensation. Car rental companies do something similar to cover repair of damaged vehicles.
