The show clocks in the F word like it's a profanity pigeon language. But I guess in the spirit of realism, it is the best way to depict the rough and lawless pioneer town.
So far, Calamity Jane is my favorite character, but I haven't finished the first season.

(18,837 posts)...short version is that f-bombs weren't the norm in that period, but rampant vulgarity was, so the show's creators modernized what was said to be more in tune with what modern ears would expect. I forget the actual "cuss words" that were the norm, but f-bombs weren't among them.
