Turn down that music!! It can't be just because I'm old that I find it to be so intrusive and offensive. Even when I was younger, I was smart enough to know that I don't need to share my music with the ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD.

Two streets over they're having friends over... a cookout to start the Summer Season. Good for them! I don't begrudge them that. But, for the LOVE OF GOD!! Turn down that thump-thump-thump music!!!

I'm hard of hearing and I can hear it INSIDE my house from TWO streets away!

Should I call the police? I think I'm going to call. This is ridiculous!

As the weather begins to break the urge for larger residential gatherings will increase. With this increase I would like to remind everyone of the county noise ordinance. The noise ordinance in Prince Georges County is no longer a time based law. The noise ordinance is now in effect 24 HOURS A DAY, 7 DAYS A WEEK and within 50 FEET of the residence on ALL SIDES! 1. Music is one thing but when they drive down the bass so low that my entire home vibrates,

my chest vibrates, (and my head throbs), that's when my patience is gone. Not all music has the same repetitive driving beat that causes the bass to loosen one's fillings, but it does seem to be the favored genre now.

The husband's birthday was the same day of the month as the memorial for fallen police officers here in Tallahassee. Years ago we'd host the mounted units horses. The first year when the neighbor's birthday party began the police officers complained to me about the noise. Previously I had just ignored it but that year they had live bands and cranked the sound levels way up.

I called the sheriff's department and two deputies came out. Their first question was "What kind of music is that?" My response, "Who cares?" The conversation had to held in yells back and forth since even though the party was almost a half mile away we couldn't talk a normal conversational levels.

The deputies left, went down to the party and asked them to turn the sound down. I could here the announcements - "Here come the cops!" and "We have to turn down the sound." Then the level got tolerable - for about five minutes. Then it went right back up. I called back to the sheriff's office and put in another complaint. The dispatcher told me the deputies had just left and I told her what had happened. Then I held the phone handset out the window - she could hear the noise over the line.

Ten minutes later I heard another announcement about the cops - and the sound STOPPED.

Ever damn year for over five years after I had to call in a noise complaint about those assholes. I don't know if the husband died or if they got tired of hiring bands only to be told they had to cut the noise, but they haven't had one of their loud parties in years.

I feel your pain, sorry you had to go through that, but glad that it's over.

In our parts, people get a free warning... then fines for repeat occurrences (on the same day). Next month's party will be a free warning, then fines.... and so on.

But, 2nd offenses will get a $500 citation... so that's good incentive to STFU.

Unfortunately (fortunately) 911 won't handle noise complaint calls... so it goes to the non-emergency dispatch (which, today, meant a 10 minute hold). --- I totally get it. It's NOT an emergency, so I won't complain about that.

But, I'm grateful that they DO respond (eventually) and they do have the weight of the law with county ordinances that aren't limited to night-time hours only.

11. No lookout - the approach to their house is in clear view to the road

I've only called 911 once - that was for a riding accident in which a woman had a very badly broken arm. Even when I thought someone was shooting in our woods I called the non-emergency number. (The deputy that responded also thought it was gunfire, but it turned out to be firecrackers in the new subdivision to the east.)

At least the dispatch number here is generally not a hold, they pick up pretty fast.

I don't know what the charge levels are here. I do know that there is a noise ordinance. But that first time I wouldn't have called it in if my clients had not complained. I would have bitched and moaned about the noise, but just closed the windows and lasted through it. Or taken that evening to go into to town.

I absolutely hate it. I find it actually painful in my ears.
Our next door neighbors had a graduation party yesterday, they spoke with us beforehand, my husband told them we would be at Sea World all day, thank you for letting us know. We got home at 1:30am the party was still going full force. I was so exhausted from the heat and the day, I did fall asleep. I don't think it could have been any louder if it was inside the house, the windows were shaking. I am shocked non of the other neighbors called the cops, considering they have in the past for much less.

I mentioned earlier... I don't begrudge anyone from having a picnic barbecue patio party... live it up! enjoy! have fun! Even if I can hear it when I'm OUTSIDE, I really don't care. But if I can hear them inside (with the windows vibrating) then that's just too f-kin loud.

were here for the weekend(our son is in the Air Force and they live 9 hours away) and we most likely wouldn't go. One cop went out to check the computer database for information on our neighbor and came back with a very worried look on her face. "Do not have anything to do with that man," she said. "Avoid him!" My husband wanted to mount cameras throughout the entire house to record EVERYTHING, but I objected. The compromise was that the indoor cameras would cover activities in the garage and at the front door, back door, and laundry room (mud room) entrances. But NOT record everything that happens in the house other than the comings and goings.

It was a nice Lorax system from Costco (sixteen cameras) and even though it's not perfect or foolproof... our goal is to DETER criminal activity. Nothing will prevent it. Maybe it's just "security theater" that does nothing except make the homeowner "feel" safe.

Because even a clear image of the criminal's face will ONLY help in court IF they can be caught or ID'd in the first place.

I'm very sorry to hear about your experience with the break-in. Glad that nobody was home and that nobody got hurt.

They kicked in the front door and completely destroyed the door jamb. While the handyman was fixing the door, the burglar alarm man came to look over the place and install his system. The alarm man had some stickers to put on the windows that would alert would be burglars to the presence of the security system. Well, the handyman asked if he might get some stickers, too. No, he wasn't going to put in an alarm system, but he believed having stickers would be enough of a deterrent. That alarm man was kind of miffed at that. He wanted to get another commission, not give away stickers!

A person should be able to sit in their home and listen to their own music, watch TV (and hear it), sleep, read, etc... without anyone else's unnecessary noise being an interference.

I can understand people have to mow their lawns and such, but someone's party shouldn't interfere with your peace.

I don't expect anyone else to put up with my noise. It should be a mutual thing.

When I was indoors, I could only hear the thumping of the bass. When I was outdoors, I could actually hear which song was being played, and I recognized about half of them.

They were playing a mix that included "my music" from "my time". I had no objection to their choice of music... just the volume and how INTRUSIVE it was.

Anyway... it's over now, and I've written the county dispatcher's non-emergency number on a postit that's now in a convenient place.

....he do scales for about 45 minutes. At first it drove me crazy, but was never any later and was less than an hour. Eventually I got used to it. When I moved, my first night in the new apartment when 7:00 rolled around I thought, "something's wrong". I actually MISSED him doing his scales!
