"Sonic the Hedgehog" movie pushed back to February 2020 amid workplace-criticism.
The story is rather straightforward:
"Sonic" is a character from a videogame: a blue hedgehog that can run really fast.
SEGA and Paramount released a trailer for the "Sonic"-movie. It was universally hated on the internet. "Sonic" looked nothing like in the videogames but like a weird hedgehog-human hybrid. (Most likely explanation: Some movie-studio big-shot who knows nothing about the character forced the artists to adopt his design over the objections of the design-team.)
Also, the story looks cheesy and cringy.
Paramount immediately anounced that the character would be changed.
Problem: This is gonna be a hell of a lot of work, and CGI- and VFX-artists are THE most exploited profession in movies and videogames, forced to work ridiculous hours under massive pressure from the bosses and with ridiculously low pay.
There is a word for that: "Crunch"
"Crunch" means 14 hour workdays with no weekends and you're gonna keep doing 14 hour workdays without weekends for weeks and months until the project is finished.
Paramount knew that any news of them overworking their VFX-artists would ruin any publicity for their movie. So they postponed it to a later release-date.
