8 years ago today....

My life changed.

Add the issues I'm going through and what day it is.....
I'm going to stay away from weather news with what has and is going on. TV is off today too, will not be on FB because people will be making posts in remembrance.

8 years and I'm still haunted. Why did I live and so many around me die? I'm still set off by certain sounds, feelings in the atmosphere, and smells.

I'll get through it like I do every year. But it will be rough.

Life can be rough, but we can survive and thrive. We can make it if we try. I say we because I'm going through a really rough spot right now with my health and I'm just hoping I can make it through this and back eventually to living a full life.

I hope you are there now, actually, and just having a bad triggering day, one to endure and live through. Maybe one year you will find it's not quite as big a deal as it was previously? That's what I wish for you.

Add it to no job and the date. It's going to be a rough day for me.
But thank you.

The tragedy will be the main story today, even on shows that don't usually do that sort of thing.

The sister of a very nice man I used to work with was killed. Even after seeing and hearing news reports all day that day, it really brought the horror home for those of us who knew him.

I'm in Tucson now, but with how the weather has been in the Midwest, somebody's gotta bring it up.

but I grew up on stories of the Beecher Tornado (before I was born, but my dad drove an ambulance at the time). To get to my family's plots in the local cemetery, we have to walk by those of the family - the mom and kids who were all killed.

I narrowly missed the Kalamazoo Tornado of 1980. I was several miles away, but my roommate was working at the Western MI University library at the time. That building's north face was all windows and campus was close enough for the tornado to veer off and hit it directly.

I'll pass on personal experience. I don't even want to imagine what you went through.

I am sincere and I cannot fathom missing that date,
I will put in on my OTD calendar, I cannot imagine 161
deaths from a tornado. My house is my life and I am in
retirement and vulnerable. I need reminders to let me
know how fortunate I am. 161 ....

So happy to have you here. You are loved, needed and wanted.

If I could possibly say anything to "make it all better" I would. But I know that's not possible.

Just know that we all love you and acknowledge your pain. Your absolute right to feel whatever you feel - no matter how much time has passed.

Was still heavily shaken 8 years after being close to people in Jarrell, and surviving another the same week. I've never been the same since, but things did get better, eventually.

Is good you're sharing about it, and taking care at this sensitive time.

I struggled with guilt and agency after crossing that existential rift. Honestly, I still struggle with those things at times, but eventually could watch various movies, etc without triggering nightmares, hypervigilance, and all the rest.

Want you to know that things can and will get better.
