Not Tananger.

(23,357 posts)We get a Western Tanagers through here but not the Scarlets. I have a plum tree that bursts with fruit every summer. There is only a small window when I can pick the fruit while it is ripe...if I delay picking by even a few days, the Western Tanagers will come in and strip the entire tree in a day which is a spectacular sight in itself. If they miss a few plums, a bear will always come behind the birds to clean up any leftovers...maybe they leave the scent of ripe plums behind them? My neighbors report the same thing...Bears follow the Tanagers.

(28,858 posts)Weve only had a couple black bears pass through in our 35 years here.
Each one left a path of destruction for a country mile through our yards.

(28,858 posts)My husband just told me the Tanager is a member of the cardinal family.

(23,357 posts)Now I do. I was just down in Missouri for a work trip and I admired their beautiful cardinals. They were everywhere around our hotel. Lets just say that was the only take away from Missouri I admired....at least politically speaking.
