If you own an Iphone - you MUST get this App

http://www.apple.com/iphone/built-in-apps/find-my-iphone.html

So yesterday I'm looking for my Iphone. I'm working from home so I start in all the usual locations and I can't find the phone ANYWHERE. I try the "Where's My Cellphone" website - which is a site that will dial your cell phone for you; however, I usually keep the ringer off during the day so it would be a miracle for me to hear the phone vibrate.

Then I remembered I installed Apple's 'Find my Iphone'. You do have to have ICloud installed on your computer I think there is a free token small cloud available to everyone. I go to my icloud site and run my 'Fine my Iphone' application and WAALAA!!! The address on the map shows that I left my Iphone at work. Then, just incase I left in on my desk I remote locked my Iphone (I rarely keep a lock on it).

All of this is free and what a wonderful peace of mind! BTW if the phone is someplace where it shouldn't be you can remore wipe clean the harddrive of your iphone too!

I don't want to use Icloud for back ups (call me paranoid). Can I install it just to use for this application?

was at Winn Dixie recently and someone reached into her purse while she was busy checking out and stole her wallet and phone. When she discovered it was missing she used the 'find my iphone' program and located her phone.

Imagine the thief's surprise when the lady showed up at her house with two police officers with her and let her know that she would like her phone back.

Funny thing was, the lady that stole the phone and wallet lived on a very nice ranch. A couple of hundred acres complete with horses.

I have the program installed, but I have never used it with icloud, I have just used someone else's phone (with the same program on it) and punched in my apple id and password and can send a signal to my phone to beep loudly (whether the sound is off or on) or locate it on a map.

But why does it show your iPhone cruising up and down the block outside Ohiosmith's house for hours on end?

This one is nice because it doesn't matter whether you have the ringer off or not - if your phone has a charge and is turned on, you can get it to scream out.

Has the usual locate phone by GPS feature too. Also no cloud required.
