Can't argue with the logic - Bring back coal

1. Wind dies. Sun sets... Coal kills.

And coal makes people sick in many ways, from just feeling crappy all the way to deadly cancers.

Yes, Americans need honest information. Not deceptive advertising. That goes for the whole world really.

3. It's true that the sun is not high in the sky and the wind is not blowing briskly most of the time.

The current solution to this problem is to burn natural gas whenever the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing.

That's why the coal industry is upset.

They'd be attacking the natural gas industry, but it's bigger than they are, so they kick the little guy.

It's nothing to do with "science."

4. It bothers me, how wrong this is

This billboard is sponsored by the Pennsylvania coal lobby, so of course it's all lies. The only "clean" coal is anthracite and it's mostly mined out. We still have some anthracite in Pennsylvania, and I believe there are anthracite coal deposits in the upper Midwest. However most of the coal that gets mined today is the bituminous "dirty" coal that's also strip-mined, or now they call it surface mining.

Strip or surface mining destroys the landscape by stripping off all the trees, vegetation, and surface features and just removing them. They just destroy everything to get the coal that's near the surface (20 or 30 feet, sometimes more.) When they're done they pick up and move to the next place. Oh yeah, they're required by law to plant some grass seed and trees before they leave. Wildlife is displaced for all time, aquifers are ruined and natural habitats are gone. The devastation is about 90% in most places where coal companies have strip-mined.

The dirty bituminous coal gets burned for electric generators, and it does even more damage to the environment and air quality. Coal mine employees suffer from some of the worst job-related illnesses, injuries and mortality rates of any industry in the US. I could go on, but this is probably enough for now.
