(21,639 posts)I once dropped a 1981 Aiwa walkman. It died; but I still have it in a box somewhere.
I had two others after that (a '95 Aiwa, and a '03 Sony) - but neither were as good.
Here's hoping you find what you're looking for on eBay.

(3,414 posts)it has a slot for a micro SD card, so if your computer does not recognize it (Windows 10 sux), you can connect with just the card in a card reader, and add up to 32GB of listening pleasure.
Works for me!

(14,492 posts)model DT-210 or DT-200X. My wife the sports nut has had a 210 for years and loves it, and batteries seem to last forever for her. They go for under $40 on Amazon or Walmart.
See: http://www.sangean.com/products/product_category.asp?cid=6
Info flyer on the DT-210: http://www.sangean.com/support/download/Flyer/V1/Flyer_20111125_DT-210_SAI_V1.pdf
Otherwise, there's lots of deals on used Walkman radios on eBay for under $20.

(23,251 posts)It still worked when I put it up there in '89 when I got a "real" computer.....Still have the OS disks, too. (no programs for it, tho, except the ones I wrote to 5.25" floppies. Ran at a "blazing" 1.79 MHz clock speed, and had an astounding 64K RAM!

(38,318 posts)I made images of all my Atari floppy disks a long time ago. Nevertheless I've still got all the physical disks and hardware boxed up in my garage.
Alas, my hardest working disk drive, which I'd upgraded to high speed double density operation, didn't work the last time I tried it, probably because some of the components I used were a bit sketchy because that's all I could afford at the time.

(17,984 posts)I haven't used it in more than a decade, but it feels comforting to know it's there. I used it on a daily basis when I was doing my semester abroad in Ireland. I'm willing to bet The Pogues Rum Sodomy and the Lash is still in it.

(4,935 posts)I know it is painful but surely you knew the day was coming. Take solace in the many happy moments (Ms., Mr.??) Walkman shared with you. As time progressess and you heal from this please open yourself to the many new devices that can also serve you well....not a replacement as none can fill that void but a new companion on your lifes journey.....(Ms., Mr.?) Walkman would not want you to be alone in silence. I can feel it in my circuits and servos.
Take care.

(3,212 posts)I think my Uncle still has a couple of old tape walkmans and CD players too.
Why not just use your phone?
You can get radio apps as well as streaming.
Me? I have a work phone and a personal. Apple and Android. ha
I like the iphone for some things, and I like my Android to actually have almost my whole music collection. I actually like to have my workout music in a specific order and not be interrupted by anything.

(22,037 posts)This was the first U.S. iteration of the Walkman. It had a medium-blue leather case with faders for the left and right volume controls. It had an orange button that, when depressed, diminished the music volume and activated a small microphone so the listener could hear what someone was saying to them. It came with a demo cassette of a Japanese disco version of the theme from the James Bond movie, "Diamonds Are Forever."
One of the drive belts broke and it really wasn't worth the cost or the trouble to repair. Although the headphones still worked, they were inferior to more modern ones and I discarded them years ago.
I still have a Walkman Professional which is a recording/playback portable cassette deck that saw tons of use over the years. Sony released a couple of small stereo microphones that were compatible with the little deck and I still use one of them for field recording.
I've always been impressed with the quality of these products.

(42 posts)when walking my dog, since I don't have a Smartphone -- Sony makes an mp3 Walkman that has a radio. It's FM only so if you like AM stations, this won't help you, but I've used this and the Sandisk, which also has a radio on it (FM only also). I like the Sony better, just my personal opinion. Good luck in your search.
