I was 8 or 9 when "Que Sera Sera" sung by Doris DAY was a hit, and my Dad and I shared the biggest crush on her ever, and while I never went to movies she was in and barely saw one or two episodes of her on t.v., I always had her on a pedestal off on her own and followed the travails of her life - the bad husbands who mistreated her and exploited her; the MANSON murders that were meant for her son; her standing by her friend Rock HUDSON; plus her animal patronage; how she hasn't seemed to be recognized enough for her magnificent voice and acting and all around lovely personality.
My gripe derives from my finding out several years ago that she is a wingnut and rabid LIMBAUGH fan. This came from my hearing him brag about it, when he said that she had made it known and that she would call his mother when he was not around and he said, "Doris, call me."
So everybody's got a right to be who they are. Just am staking out a space of disappointment for myself in the middle of my vast admiration for her. Otherwise, happy 97th birthday, Doris DAY. I'm not ruining the good thread with my downer.

(38,436 posts)Those movies "worked" for me. Yes, somewhat old, and often pretty simple. Good endings. So what? I like good endings..happy endings..Why Not?

(70,713 posts)Although she doesn't flaunt it like some others do. The only movie I've seen her in is the HITCHCOCK and she was her same fine persona, though the movie was hokie to me. My *specific* gripe is about her politics, like with SARANDON, of whose movies I've seen more, like 3 or 4 that I've liked.
My problem I'm posing is liking somebody whose politics are detestable to me.
Now I think she must have a few screws loose or not be well informed.
