I used to be able to call the operator and get a number. Now you have to sign
up with a credit card and pay a fee for one number. Ugh.
Is there a better way?

(52,384 posts)personally, i just google the phone number.
if it's a legitimate company, it's usually quite obvious who it is.
if it's a personal number, either my phone recognizes it or it's a wrong number or it's a long-lost friend who won't mind leaving a message.
i don't feel the need to investigate the wrong number dialer, so google is usually fine for me.

get my old friend's number.

(36,903 posts)I entered the last name I was looking for and the area code. The person I was looking for was the fourth entry in the results.
Mind you, the person I was looking for has a landline. I am guessing that that makes the difference because their cell number was blurred out. Perhaps your friend has a cell phone and/or is not listed.

every search I've tried to do for several years has been the same---no luck.
