Recently, I decided to tempt fate, and see how long I could go without Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, Instagram, or any of my many Social Media Accounts.
Especially after seeing News Reports of the Vaxer kid who stated that his 'Mom gets all of her news from Facebook'. I'd already ditched by that point, but glad to know that maybe I've done the right thing.
Anyone else ditched Social Media?

(149,629 posts)I love my social media accounts! I have good friends all over the place.
I post my photos on them and get feedback and compliments.
It's a big window onto the outside world and I love traveling there.
I am retired and if I didn't have them, I would be bored.

(12,265 posts)I have reconnected with friends all over the country. I see pictures of their kids and spouses. I don't get around as well as I used to in terms of air travel, so this is my chance to see them all! I keep track of former students of mine and my husband. I know it has it's issues, but I do enjoy it.

(507 posts)But I had let it grow to be too large a chunk of my day. Retired for almost a year, and the longer into that year of Retirement I found that I was spending more with Social Media, than life itself.

(507 posts)Why I'm off Social Media. There's simply no reasoning with trumpers.

(21,158 posts)I still use messenger though to keep in contact. Now occasionally if a post from a friend appears in my email I might check. But getting off was easier than I thought. I didnt deactivate my account though. I used to look at Facebook several times a day. I was so angry reDing that the Russians were responsible for influencing people on Facebook with stupid Hillary Clinton posts that were outright lies. Plus I got tired of my friends vanity posts about how they had these great Social lives.
My life is a lot less complicated.

(9,831 posts)It has been a reliable tool for raising awareness of animal welfare issues and for getting animals out of county animal control facilities to rescue groups. It has also helped tremendously with spay/neuter clinics and informing the public about backyard breeding operations and puppymills.
Edit to add: How did we ever keep up with lost pets before social media? Works better than posters and is a lot quicker.

(507 posts)Trying my best to get my 'home without wheels' ready, so I can sell, as well as work on my home with wheels (Airstream Motorhome). Once one is sold, and other is road-ready, most likely will activate them all, just so my former co-workers, family and friends can follow along in my travels across North America.

I hang out in a couple of online groups, but that's about it.

No Facebook.
No Twitter.
No Instagram.
I guess all that rock and roll I listen to on YouTube is probably rotting my brain, though.
