He said he wrote it on vacation late one night in a bar in Kawii “ on wet cocktail napkins after some improbable and grotesque mischief.” Giving a slight nod to his buddy HST......

Still waking up in the mornings with shaking hands
And I'm trying to find a girl who understands me
But except in dreams, you're never really free
Don't the sun look angry at me

Zevon has dogged me my entire life, waiting patiently for me to grow into his lessons. My dad introduced me and my brother to Zevon. I was five, and my brother was three. During "Excitable Boy", my brother would jump up on the couch and rub an imaginary pot roast all over his chest. We are told that we turned out well in spite of this.

"I saw Lon Chaney Jr. walking with the Queen."

Love those lines.

But, "Send Lawyers, Guns and Money" will always be my favorite. That beat almost has me up and marching.

Linda did a great version of this song but this one is my favorite.

Always thought the substitution of Smith and Wesson for Smith Corona took a lot of the poignancy from the song.

A junkie pawning a pistol for a fix just doesn't have the tenderness of a writer pawning his typewriter.

How is one to eliminate three of those?

Him and Letterman had quite the relationship. I recall Dave talking about him an Warren driving across the country together.

called Lyme and Cybelle. I LOVED this song with every fiber of my 13-year-old soul, and 53 years later I still do! Especially after learning many years later that Lyme was Warren Zevon.
