10 Proven Benefits of Green Tea

Green tea is more than just liquid.

Many of the plant compounds in the tea leaves do make it into the final drink, which contains large amounts of important nutrients (1).

Tea is rich in polyphenols that have effects like reducing inflammation and helping to fight cancer.

Green tea is about 30 percent polyphenols by weight, including large amounts of a catechin called EGCG. Catechins are natural antioxidants that help prevent cell damage and provide other benefits.

These substances can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body, protecting cells and molecules from damage. These free radicals are known to play a role in aging and all sorts of diseases.

EGCG (Epigallocatechin Gallate) is one of the most powerful compounds in green tea. It has been studied to treat various diseases and may be one of the main reasons green tea has such powerful medicinal properties (2).

It's a Kirkland brand that comes in convenient teabags and doesn't have that bitter aftertaste that I've found in some other green teas, and it's good served either hot or cold. Davidson's Loose Leaf Green Tea, sold by Amazon is another good brand I enjoy. One of my favorite blends is a pot of the Green Tea with fresh grated Ginger to add a bit of spiciness.

I knew green teas are supposed to be beneficial because my doctor recommends it. He says drinking a cup or two before meals will make you eat less...

Have many different kinds of tea, most are bitter tea. Green tea, is always bitter and Asians are used to the flavor, and enjoy it. In The United States, Sweet tea is popular especially in the south, so the thought of drinking something bitter seems a bizarre act. I personally love green tea for its bitter flavor. Matcha has a very pleasing taste, which is why Matcha Ice Cream is popular.
