I'm not talking fragrances you buy in a bottle. Something a little more organic.
For me, I love the smell of citrus, particularly orange and grapefruit.
I also love the smell of gardenias.
Sandalwood.
Certain foods while cooking for sure: garlic and onions together, baked beans, coffee, and brownies.

(2,674 posts)Dark fired tobacco is used to make snuff and chewing tobacco. After harvesting, it is hung tall, narrow tobacco barns and smoked with heat, this is calling firing. This type of tobacco is grown in Western Tennessee and Western Kentucky.
I used to live near Murray, Kentucky and always looked forward to Autumn to smell the tobacco firing. As you drive down the country roads, you get a whiff of the smell of the tobacco being fired, it smells like tobacco, barbecue and bacon all combined. Nothing like it.

(22,252 posts)I truly hate all tobacco products when they are being used. However, a dark fired tobacco barn is like nothing else. It is the scent of home in late summer and early fall. The barns leak smoke and it is just divine. The fire is a smoulder of aromatic sawdust: cherry, oak, walnut, apple, pecan and others. I used to love going into the barn on a cold October day when I was a kid.

I used to like campfires until I had a neighbor who burned them almost every frikkin night 10 ft away from my windows - for hours on end. Basically, wood smoke is particulate matter and its not healthy to be breathing a lot of it. Esp if like my neighbor they are burning treated wood and plastic junk and spewing other chemicals in the air. With some people too, it can be risky to ask them to stop doing something, cos then they REEALLLY start doing it even more, just to prove that they can. This was that type of person.
So .... hope you keep your campfires to yourself, OP!

(1,752 posts)a year ago exactly.... never did identify although I thought it might have to do with the live oaks ...??? They do flower this time of year - the green tassely things. Or might it have been Spanish moss? That apparently does have a fragrance.

Sage throughout the west.
I remember gettting off the plane in Fairbanks AK - the one and only time Ive been to AK. The incredibly fresh smell that hit me when I got off the plane - it was just amazing and wonderful - reminiscent of snow, ice cold wild rushing Alaskan rivers, vast pine forests....
By the next day, Id gotten used to it. Then returning to hot, humid midwestern US in July- Getting off the plane it was the opposite experience - got hit with moldy, funky lake smell with definite overtones of CAR EXHAUST. YUCK. Almost made me cry.
