One movie that perplexes me, and another that should have had a sequel.

The Losers.
Chris Evans and Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, all in one movie - and no sequel? The movie was the Losers. A 2010 pre-superhero time. Mixes humor and action. Jeffrey Dean Morgan claimed that the movie wasn't promoted properly, and then, of course, the superhero era took over and now those actors would have to want to do this sequel in order to make it happen.

Suspiria -- Spoilers
Dakota Johnson stars in the movie. Why dear God, why would someone want to remake this gorefest, and then try to heady-explain it as a Matriarchal horror movie? All these talented, beautiful actresses put together in one movie on witchcraft, and this is the best they can do? Now it's possible that there are intricacies of witchcraft that I will never understand or accept. In fact the movie, The Witch, 2015 was written in a way that conforms with the traditional stereotypes of witches: A constant threat to human life. Ordinary people are vulnerable and defenseless against beings that can possess family members to do their evil bidding. You never have to even see them to be in danger. And, apparently, The Witch, hit the right chord for the critics because it won quite a bit of cinematic awards. Frankly, I couldn't watch to the end, I had to read about it on wikipedia.

And then, there's Suspiria. You are put in the center of witch culture that is parading as a dance school. It is through dance recitals that the powers within the young witches manifest themselves - and for a while, it seems like only the dance teachers are aware of what they really are. Movements are like a twisted form of Tai Chi - (yes, there's an inside joke in there.) The dances and the music become hard to watch as you soon realize that this is not going to end well for someone. It is unsettling to see how far this movie goes to show the cruelty towards the victims, and how easily the bodies are disposed. Time transcends the plot, especially for the only real human in the movie. He does get reprieve in the end by the "matriarch" who evolves and transforms over the course of the movie.

Do many of you remember the B&G movies we were shown in driving school? Blood and Guts were movie reels of real accident casualties to try to scare you into proper behavior? Well, Suspiria is a B&G movie for witches. That's my take.

I'd go see just about anything with Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
