Cranes Do The Craziest Dance To Show They Care

1. Last month a couple of sandhill cranes came within a yard of me while I was eating lunch

My husband and I had gone to the Circle B Bar Reserve south of Lakeland, Florida with my sister and her husband. After we walked Alligator Alley (yes, there were alligators and lots of birds) we ate lunch. My sister and her husband left and my husband took a bathroom break. While I was sitting alone a pair of cranes ambled over from the parking lot and came very close to where I was sitting. They did a short mating dance and then came closer.

It turns out that the birds at Circle B Bar are now so tame that the sandhill cranes are getting as pesky as squirrels, trying to get people to feed them at the picnic tables. They will approach small groups of people more than large ones so I guess me sitting there alone seemed link a good opportunity for those beggars. too bad - I didn't have anything to give them, even if they might have liked some of my salad!
