The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo I'm thinking of going to see Kiss this weekend.
Any reason why I shouldn't?

(33,643 posts)This is coming from someone who's first-ever Concert was Kiss/Cheap Trick, on the Love Gun tour, and Love Gun was the first LP I ever bought with my own money (though I'd bought Toys in the Attic a short time before, that was with an Xmas check ... Love Gun I bought with chore money).
They're just not THAT good of musicians, really. Destroyer was a borderline-great album, Rock and Roll Over was decent (both thanks to Bob Ezrin) ... apart from that ... meh.
Plus, Simmons is a right-wing dickbag. I might say something about him and Stanley's love of money, but ... that'll land me in fast trouble.
Hey, you asked me to talk you out of it

He's maybe not all that liberal either (no idea really), but this is for sure a farewell tour, and he's got TONS of great songs. I'd rather throw HIM my cash, myself.

(100,099 posts)Although I am going to see Panic At The Disco, this week, that will be a much better show.

(1,622 posts)...Even though Adam Lambert is no Freddie Mercury, I'd go see them before I'd go see Kiss, hands down.
And to think I used to be a member of the Kiss Army WAY back in the day...

(77 posts)When I was younger I gave them a lot of money, they were a part of my growing up. But Gene Simmons really has turned me off over the years, from his politics to selling $6,000 kiss caskets. I prefer to remember those late 70's shows in a positive light and leave it at that.

(12,132 posts)is I once saw the Vinnie Vincent Invasion open for Alice Cooper. I think VV and KISS are not on good terms at the moment though lol.
On a side note, the first opening act was Virginia Wolfe - with a young Jason Bonham on drums.
Meh, they are d-bags for sure but I'd still go if someone gave me a ticket. I didn't like them that much back when I didn't know anything about their politics so I wouldn't spend much money on them at any rate. A couple songs I like. I hear their show is a spectacle though so it might be fun if you're high enough.

(9,291 posts)Music is good for the brain. Don't over think it, if you can afford it then go.
I went to 3 concerts this year, and I call it going to church. Lights up my CNS and brings me peace. Enjoy.
