sation with her many years ago at the Airport Hilton here in West Palm Beach. I picked up a part-time job nights at the hotel after my daughter died, mostly so I didn't have to go home to that empty condo. Anyway, one night I was doing a "walk through" the lobby and she was sitting in one of the easy chairs just relaxing after one of her shows. She was staying at the hotel, as many performers do because of the easy access to the airport. I walked over and asked if I could get her anything. She looked up with that fabulous smile..."Why don't you give your feet a rest for a minute." I sat down and asked her how her show went and she said they were a generous crowd. She then said..."You're not from Florida, Jersey maybe?" I started to crack up, she did too, and I told her my mother spent a fortune trying to rid me of the accent, then I said you don't pahk the cah in the garahge either. I then mentioned one of my sons was living in the Boston area and we discussed the State, etc. We had a great conversation.
I didn't want to overstay my welcome and told her I'd better get back to work. Upon leaving her I said "You know it's going to be very embarrassing when I tell people how wonderful it was to talk with you and when they ask I'll have to tell them we discussed geography."...What a loss this is.
