We have 3 Great Pyrenees that think they're lap dogs. And our laps never lack for a coating of white hair.

Our old guy was 1/2 Catahoula and 1/2 Siberian and he weighed over 102 lbs. Our dog before him was a Golden & Collie mix and he was tall and weighed around 75 lbs., so big too. Both developed severe arthritis in their hind legs and both had the condition where their discs harden and had huge mobility issues. It was so sad. We couldn't deal with this again, it's too painful, so this time we got a Australian Shepherd and he's only 45 lbs. It'll be much easier to get him up the steps if he starts having mobility issues as an older dog. From what I read, that isn't typical for Aussies' so we're hoping we get to skip that this time around.

Catahoula's live span is 12-1/2 years, we were so blessed to have our 1/2 Catahoula, 1/2 Siberian for more than 15 years.

have not had the giant ones, like Great Danes and Newfies, but like the Goldens, have had Shepards.

My daughter in law has a toddler, a new baby and a Great Dane.... talk about hands full.

and the single most important factor in her wanting to get one was because her friend (whose family raises horses and lives on a ranch) had a Newfie and a Papillon and the Pap would ride around on the back of the Newfie. It was the funniest damn thing I ever saw.

Of course, she wanted both so she could have them do that but we do NOT raise horses or live on a ranch. The Papillon is just fine for our city butts.

He was the sweetest dog on the planet. Unfortunately, he suffered from hip dysplasia. But he still let me use him as a pillow to take naps.
