Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI watched the first episode of the first season of the Fargo series yesterday.
I've been meaning to watch it for a while now but it only recently became available on demand for me.
Note that the movie Fargo is one of my favorite movies of all time. I absolutely adore the Coen brothers line of work and their ways of filmmaking.
I have to say I was a little hesitant to watch the series because although they had the Coen's blessing, they wouldn't be involved on the hands on production of the series, and I'd feel it would be a letdown.
So, after watching the first episode, my initial impression is....
...it felt a bit like they took the movie and put it in a blender and chopped it all up so we ended up with something similar, but different. A lot of the characters seemed like carbon copies of characters from the movie but with some key differences in circumstances. Shots and scenes looked very similar to the movie.
I hope I will be able to sustain the series. The good thing is that I believe each season is semi-independent of one another so I don't think watching on a binge basis will be overly exhausting.
But for those who have seen it, without giving any major spoilers, what are your thoughts on the series vs. the movie? Especially as it pertains to the first season?

(3,427 posts)The series is very well done, and stands on its own. Different story and time, but, as you observed, there are similarities in the overall mood and the characters. Though the series wasn't meant as a sequel, there is one significant element of the story toward the end of Season 1 that connects it to Fargo the movie.
Season 2, which is sort of a prequel to Season 1, was also quite good!
Season 3 was okay, but I didn't like it as much as the first two.
