Yes, this is proper etiquette. If Hig jumped up there the flower vase would be history.

They can turn this on at will, usually when a human has food that can be shared.
My girlfriend had the most adorable and friendly pomeranian I ever knew, and he still could manage to put his cute on full-blast when he wanted something. Like his eyes grew and his ears got extra fluffy and his expression was even more relatable.

move their ears and whiskers full forward, and look up at you. Dogs go cute in a similar way, but they also have somewhat moveable "eyebrows" that they raise, which gives them that irresistible sad-puppy look.
