Our sons and Their friend and I went to the grocery store to score some burger as they want cheeseburgers for lunch. So after the gym the store just opened, I gather the three stable geniuses around at store entrance giving out simple instructions. As in grab a cart and grab what you fellas need and hook up with me when your done. Ill be at the deli getting broccoli salad then at the butcher ok.
So somewhere somehow the simple instructions I gave out to these 14 year olds degraded into hey lets grab these handicap electric scooters and will shop and drag race each other. So Im standing at the butcher counter and yup I look down and here they are ,all three of em trying to drag race to the frozen Mac cheese section.
I told butcher Ill be back to get the burger and walking towards them as they motored towards me smiling I came down on them you get your bums up front grab a cart. And plug those scooters back in tell you it was hard keeping a straight face.

You have great kids because they have a great dad!

They DO turn have a nice turning radius, though.

i seem to be preoccupied with the idea that all this appears to have taken place so early in the day (it is showing an 8:26 am post)
i'm wondering how you get three teenage kids to a gym, grocery store, then back home to post this so early in the morning.

(4,291 posts)In a year or so, theyll apply for learners permits. And then, theyll be on your streets and highways. First, with adult supervision, and then once they pass their eye exams, written tests and driving exams without.
Please bookmark this post and get back to us in a couple years.

But yesterday the darling esposo and I stopped in for cottage cheese and were amused by a cadre of four young guys who'd corraled one of the electric scooter/cart combos and were doing a combination of basketball and slalom racing.
The store was uncrowded and has huge wide aisles so they weren't a major nuisance. They were enjoying themselves so much, it was fun to watch. Young guy stuff... snatching each others' hats, doing bank shots off each other with bags of buns, etc.
I would not go back to being that age for anything you could give me, but I do remember the fun times, and it was nice to see that hasn't changed.

(7,643 posts)I cringed when reading about your sons using the "handicap" (not a pc term these days) electric scooters for their amusement. These scooters are expensive and require maintenance and are for people who have mobility issues. It wasn't until ADA was passed in 1990 that most buildings and bathrooms became accessible. There were a lot of struggles trying to go to public places prior to that, as you can imagine. I don't know what the legal requirements are for the scooters at the local market, but the fact that they are available can make the difference between a laborious shopping trip or not for someone with special needs.
This is not a criticism of you as a parent -- it is obvious that you are doing a great job. I just hope you'll take my post into consideration.
I was pissed when I saw em but then chilled out
