Einstein had a flying car in 1931, so why don't I have one today? (Original Post)

but they've turned out to be inadequate as both airplanes and cars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerocar
Now there's a new one where you don't have to attach the wings whenever you want to fly it:
This thing will be available for sale this year for a mere $400K. https://www.nbcnews.com/mach/science/terrafugia-transition-means-long-wait-flying-cars-almost-over-ncna919211
Fortunately it can take off and land only at airports, and you need a pilot's license. The whole idea of everybody having a flying car terrifies me.

This is a picture I took right after it landed.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,809 posts)4. Yes, there are still a few out there.
I think they actually sold a half-dozen or so. I would worry about flying in something where I had to attach the wings every time, and would rather not have to drive around towing the wings behind me. Was this at Oshkosh?
